‘I, Ann, of allmyownwokbyann.com, sign up as a participant of Me-Made-May ’16. I endeavour to wear at least one handmade item each day for the duration of May 2016’
I first took part in Me Made May in 2015, having maintained only a watching brief in 2014. I didn’t intend to record it, but I still kept a list of what I had been wearing next to my laptop, and ended up blogging it. And I haven’t forgotten that blog post, and what it told me about my wardrobe.
Why just May? Last year, as a practice run, I had a ‘Me Made Late April’ week or so. I had just started a new contract, having made lots of new work clothes, so it was an excellent excuse to get started early.
This year, in preparation for Me Made May, I am having a few days of ‘I haven’t worn that for ages’, which brings into play quite a few RTW garments that have been languishing in the wardrobe whilst I wear my much more exciting handmade garments. In fact, I have just taken two mid-season tops out of my summer wardrobe – they never made it to the winter wardrobe this year!
Here are some of the handmade items that I am wearing at the moment:
I think we should all have ‘stuff I don’t wear very often’ periods, or else take said ‘stuff’ to the charity shop. Here’s a sample of what’s already gone to the charity shop:
Anyway, roll on Me Made May, when I will go back to wearing the handmade stuff that I love, including, I hope, some of my recent makes that will suit warmer weather.
